BMA Bringing Late Night Comedy and Second City to BMA14

Thursday, May 22, 2014

Tim Washer Profile PhotoSteve Young Profile PhotoActually, the b2b marketing space seems to be attracting people from the comedy pillars of America!

Tim Washer, Senior Marketing Manager, Social Media, at Cisco Systems, who will give a firestarter talk late Wednesday, May 28, titled, “Late Night Comedy Meets Corporate Storytelling,” is by training a comedian and comedy writer and earlier in his career worked as an actor and writer for “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”

Steve Young, a longtime writer for “The Late Show with David Letterman,” became fascinated by the mostly b2b-oriented “industrial musicals” of the 1950s-1970s and recently published a namesake book on the subject, and he has been on the show (a rarity for a writer) twice with David Letterman. Steve will give a firestarter talk Thursday afternoon, May 29, titled “A Retro Moment in Marketing History.”

Of course, Second City’s heralded corporate entertainment unit, Second City Communications (SCC), has been staging fundamentally b2b-focused performances—perhaps in a way the successors to industrial musicals—for years. On Thursday morning, May 29, an SCC troupe will perform a sketch spoofing                (well, Gary Slack says we can’t tell you).

BMA to Provide BMA14 Attendees With Conference Attendee Name List on May 28

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Gary Slack Profile PhotoWhen BMA14 attendees arrive at the Chicago Hilton, they will receive a 182-page program guide that will include not just the standard list of attending company names (as of May 10), but also a full list of actual attendee names minus contact information.

As we expect another 100-200 b2b marketers to register between May 10 and May 28, BMA will also make the larger list of attendees available via one of the conference’s technology platforms, either Livecube or ISEBOX. Details to come.

“Every year, we receive requests from both marketers and service providers to see who is attending,” said Gary Slack, BMA’s Vice President of Professional Development and organizer of BMA14 and past BMA global conferences going back to 2009. “As our attendees are a who’s who of the b2b marketing world, we will this year provide names, titles, companies and locations.”
